The true essence of what coaching is and what it is used is often confused with mentoring, where expectations are for coaches to tell clients how and what to do to achieve their goals. Usually, the emphasis is on prescriptive thinking to fix a problem and find a solution. Transformative coaching allows both the coach and client to tap into the unknown zone and provides a reflective thinking space that allows them to become vulnerable and keen to explore and learn within this zone. It offers the opportunity to see how knowledge transfer happens away from conventional learning.
